1958 was truly the breakout year for the Corvette. The GM designers moved the car's styling away from its European heritage, thus becoming the definition of the "American" sports car. Not all the changes were limited to interior and exterior styling; performance was enhanced and running gear was upgraded. These "American" styling and performance cues all pointed to the Corvette's racing heritage and America's growing love affair with speed.
